What is drop-off tax preparation and how does it work?
Drop-off tax preparation is simple. Just follow these easy steps.
- During our regularly scheduled VITA hours, drop in with your tax forms, Government issued picture ID, SS card or ITIN, and all of your tax forms.
- Complete the intake and interview process.
- Sign the Virtual VITA Taxpayer Consent form in-person before leaving the VITA site.
- Complete a virtual or in-person review after the tax return is prepared (typically within the week).
How do you keep my tax forms and information secure?
After you complete the intake and interview process, all your tax forms will be scanned into the IRS tax software, TaxSlayer. You will take home your original tax documents and we will not retain any physical copies of your tax documents.
Why should I do drop-off tax preparation?
Drop-off tax preparation saves you time and doesn’t require an appointment. It is an option if all appointments are booked for a particular day and your schedule is busy on other days. Also, drop-off works well if you need to file multiple years. With drop-off tax preparation, you don’t need to be present for the tax preparation process which normally takes 1-1.5 hours. This means you can stop by and drop-off your tax documents and forms to us any time during our regularly scheduled hours. We’ll handle the rest and contact you within a few business days once the tax return has been prepared so we can together do a virtual or in-person review and get your approval before the return is transmitted to the IRS.
